Juanita Kidd Stout was born in Wewoka, Oklahoma. She received her BA from the Univesity of Iowa. Following the receipt of her BA, she taught music for sever years before pursuing her career in law.
She earned bothe her J.D and LLM degress from Indiana University. She then practised law for five years. She joined the district attorney's (DA) office in Philadelphia and serves as the Assistant DA snf lsyrt as Chief of Appeals, Pardons and Pardons.
In 1959, she was elected judge of the Common Pleas Court in Philadelphia, becoming the first black woman to be elected to the bench.
Judge Stout was re-elected 1969 and 1979, receiving the highest vote of the Philadelphia Bar Association. She is highly respected by her peers, educators and the public.
She has received over 50 awards during her carrer including "Ourstanding Woman Lawyer of The Year".
